The Theresa E. DeLaup Memorial lighthouse will be a modern version of the Mecom Lighthouse of the early 1960’s that stood for over 40 years at the entrance to what is now called “Harborwalk”. The new lighthouse and park will be a one of a kind for Galveston County offering a constant reminder of where Harborwalk is located and a grand entrance to a one of a kind waterfront living subdivision.
The park will include a 68ft lighthouse, a 55 foot lighted pier large enough for walking traffic and golf carts, reflection areas, grills for picnics, reflection benches, a ¼ mile walking/jogging track and a paver area where bricks will be sold to benefit the MD Anderson Cancer Research Hospital. A magnificent Bocce Ball court and sand volleyball court is also proposed.
The purpose of the park is to honor my wife Theresa who gallantly fought stage 4 colon cancer for 9 years. Numerous symbolic traits will be spread throughout the park and the park will afford owners and guest the opportunity to visit, reflect and hold family picnics in the grassy areas as well as in and under the lighthouse. Palm trees and professionally landscaped areas will enhance Harborwalks main entrance like no other subdivision on the Gulf Coast.
